Winter in Greater Grand Rapids
We’ve included activities and businesses that will make your winter months in Grand Rapids fantastic and fun! Check them out below:
Ice Skating at Rosa Park Circle
Runs from Dec-Feb
A great way to experience the traditions of Grand Rapids and something you truly will never forget. I can remember standing in line for skates and skating in the center of the city as a young girl and those memories are something I hold so close to my heart.
You can book a reservation to skate on their website (This is new since the COVID restrictions) by clicking the button below!
Grand Rapids Symphony Holiday Pops
Runs in December
Spend the holiday season with family and good music! The Pops bring so much joy to that time of year and before or after the show you can walk down and see the big Christmas tree out by Rosa Parks Circle as well!
Go See the Lights around GR
In the winter time Grand Rapids sure does know how to display some amazing lights around the city! There are lights downtown around Rosa Parks Circle, you can visit the Ada bridge, go through the 5/3rd Ball Park light show, and see so many more lights scattered across Grand Rapids!
The holiday season is a time of scrambling to get gifts amongst a busy schedule and that’s why the Shop Hop is the best thing ever! So what is it? It’s where the local shops in GR (mostly on the East side) will open later than normal (so you can stop after your day of work — score!) and offer some pretty rad deals on their products.
Outside Coffee Co
While it’s open year round, Outside Coffee Co is just a whole different experience in the winter. They set up heated domes every year that make for such a cozy space to enjoy a coffee with friends and family, plus if your looking for a good Instagram picture to take, this is the place to be!
World of Winter
The World of Winter is such a fun thing that happens in GR during the winter months. It’s a festival that makes Grand Rapids pop in the winter with free programming and activities that are geared for both families and adults. The list of activities is long and they are all so unique, check out their website to learn about all they have to offer below!
Horse and Carriage Rides
Rates starting at $50
One of the cool things that GR has to offer all year round are horse and buggy rides by Classic Carriage LLC, however, these make for a perfect date night or ride with your family in the winter months with the snow on the ground and the lights in the city. Remember to bundle up!
If you love the sports of winter like skiing, snowboarding, tubing, then Cannonsburg is perfect for you and your family! Children’s passes are $25 and Adult passes are $35 on weekdays and a little bit more on weekends. They also offer ski, snowboard, and helmet rentals.
