Amalia Newenhouse

Hello Hello! I'm Amalia!

I am the IHeartGR communications gal and have the honor and pleasure of being the one who posts what you see on our social media pages!

I was born and raised in Hudsonville MI, so I have always lived about 20 minutes from the heart of Downtown GR. Growing up I was taught to love the city and everything that comes with it. My Dad worked right downtown and we would visit him quite frequently for lunch growing up. Those lunch times normally consisted of walking to the Fish Ladder to feed the fish with any extra bread we could find in our house.

My childhood was filled with visiting the Children’s Museum, going to the Festival of the Arts, getting lunch Downtown and walking to Calder Plaza, going to Art Prize, ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle, and visiting Frederik Meijer Gardens to say “hi” to the butterflies.

As I got older I got to go to my first concerts at Van Andel Arena and really found a love for the music side of Grand Rapids. I was apart of the Grand Rapids Symphony Youth Chorus and absolutely loved being involved in the famous “Holiday Pops” concerts!

My absolute top favorite thing about this fantabulous city is definitely the coffee scene. I have yet to find a city with a stronger one. There is a coffee shop atmosphere for everyone and when I want to go get some work done at a coffee shop I have the hardest time choosing one because there are just so many!

I am currently studying Strategic Communication at Calvin University and really have found a love for content creation!

I heart GR because it’s simply the best city, the coffee scene is unbeatable, there are murals and art around every corner, shopping small and local is the norm, and the GR traditions and staples make the city so special!
