Kids Summer Activities in Grand Rapids and Greater West Michigan

HAPPY SUMMER YALL!

Summer is full of fun, sun, and play in West Michigan and we are just so excited about it! Summer is fun in general, but we’re here to share some ways you can make it even more fun with your kiddos! 

Here are a few places both in Grand Rapids and Greater West Michigan that you can go with your kids this summer and we can assure you they will have a blast! 

GRAND RAPIDS

1) Frederik Meijer Gardens

Adventure through the many exhibits at Frederik Meijer Gardens with your kids. Explore the Michigan Farm Garden, the Lena Meijer Children’s Garden, the Japanese Garden, and so much more! Or visit for an outdoor concert series! Learn more on their website 

2) Millenium Park

This popular GR park is perfect for visiting in the summer. They have trails for hiking/biking, a splash pad, water activities like kayaking and paddle boarding, and so much more! 

3) John Ball Zoo

What better way to spend a summer day than to take some kiddos on a zoo adventure! There’s nothing better than fun that can also be a learning opportunity. John Ball Zoo has a variety of summer programs and events, check out their website to learn more! 

4) GR Children’s Museum

The Grand Rapids Children’s Museum is the best place to take littles! You can keep them occupied for hours with all the fun you’ll find in the museum. 

5) GR Public Museum

There’s always something fun going on at the Public Museum! They have rotating featured exhibits every season that you won’t want to miss! This summer learn about fashion and nature, the age of dinosaurs, the history of Grand Rapids, and more with the variety of exhibits you’ll find at the museum! 

6) Visit a local splash pad

Splash pads are a BIG hit for the kiddos in the summer! Here’s a list of a few of our favs in the city: 

GREATER WEST MICHIGAN

1) Fennville Children’s Museum

In the charming town of Fennville, you’ll find just the cutest little children’s museum perfect for letting your kids imagination run wild for a day! They also have fun summer programs and day camps going on! 

2) Lake Arvesta

Lake Arvesta is a child’s paradise! An aqua park, disc golf, pickleball courts, floating obstacle courses, water slides, and more is what you’ll find there! Lake Arvesta is just such a blast!

3) Air Zoo Museum

Learn all about aerospace and science at this museum in Kalamazoo full of unique aircraft and spacecraft exhibits!

4) Grand Haven Musical Fountain

Bring your kiddos out to Grand Haven for the Grand Haven Musical Fountain! Get some ice cream, spread out a blanket on the lawn, and watch the magic happen! 

5) Greater West Michigan Zoo’s

If you’re looking to visit a zoo outside of Grand Rapids this summer, we’ve got some recommendations for ya! 

  • Binder Park Zoo: Located in Battle Creek, Binder Park is full of fun animal exhibits and even a giraffe feeding experience!
  • Boulder Ridge Zoo: Enjoy over 120 species of animals along with a walkthrough safari! Boulder Ridge is truly a unique experience!
