2022 Design Trends from HBA’s Fall Parade of Homes

We were thrilled to partner with the GR Home Builder Association to both giveaway tickets and experience the phenomenal newly constructed showcase homes in our area.

And wow!  What a fall preview from the best of the best in West Michigan home builders.

Below are our Top 5 design trends to watch from the Fall Parade of Homes.

No. 5: Deep Earthy Tones

Goodbye grays, hello saturated earthy hues.

These homes looked like they jumped right out of a rainforest with deep greens, cloudy creams, ocean blues, and loads of naturally stained wood accents.

No. 4: Anything But White Cabinets

Painted cabinets, natural cabinets, two-toned cabinets. There were an abundance of built in storage options throughout each build but it was rare to see any painted white.  Watch for this trend to continue for the next several years.

No. 3: Fluted Walls

Coffee shops, home builders, and DIY TikTokers alike are already on the latest design trend; fluted walls.  By combining a dark accent colored wall with wood strips this trend makes an immediate impact in any space. Fluted walls may be on our quick trend list, but we are here for it while it lasts.

No. 2: Black Accents

Number two has been here for a bit with the influx of black windows, but this season designers kicked up the use of black accents inside as well.  Black hardware will be a strong stay for the foreseeable future.

No. 1: More At Home Amenities

Shelter in place has certainly changed the way that we use and live in our homes.  This year’s Parade homes more often than not included executive sized offices, prominent at home gyms, and enhanced outdoor living spaces.  We expect this to be a main-stay of the newly constructed homes well into the next decade as our relationship with the work-from-home lifestyle continues to evolve.
