I’m not sure if any of you are in the same boat, but I cannot tell you how many times I have typed into Google “Patios in Grand Rapids.”
With that being said, we have put together a list of patio spaces in Grand Rapids that you may want to visit this fall and even some this winter!
Keep in mind, there are SO MANY restaurants with the new social zones. The restaurants we listed below are just a few of our favorite go-to places!
A couple of pro tips before you head out, though:
Bring a mask. Most places require one before you sit at your table, you don’t want to be that person who gets refused at the host stand.
Be prepared to TIP YOUR SERVER. Not only should you tip them, but think about throwing in a little extra if you can. They are working in the midst of this mess and working hard to keep a safe and clean environment for you to dine in.
If you are feeling any symptoms of COVID-19, please please please stay home! Have food delivered and left at your door or make something in your fridge. We all thank you in advance.
This has nothing to do with COVID and everything to do with just being a nice person, use your please and thank you’s!
Now onto the list:
1. Donkey Taqueria
Donkey Taqueria – In the time that Donkey Taqueria has been open, we have seen it quickly become a Grand Rapids favorite for many residents in the surrounding areas. Here you can enjoy Mexican street food and finely crafted cocktails, including their famous prickly pear margarita! Their patio offers shaded seating during the day and strung lights for a beautiful ambiance in the evening.
Hancock – Obviously everyone has a preference of restaurants and vibes, and Hancock has completely stolen my heart! I regularly visit Hancock for their incredible chicken sandwich and frozen cocktail menu. The patio comes alive with string lights and the sound of a beautiful playlist accompanied by the laughs of other diners. 10/10 would recommend trying Hancock if you haven’t yet!
3. Harmony Brewing Company
Harmony Brewing Company – Harmony has two locations, each with outdoor seating. However, we want to focus on the patio section of Harmony Brewing Company located on Lake in Eastown. Large garage doors lead you from the inside to their outdoor patio where you can enjoy craft beer and award-winning pizza! What could be better than that?!
4. Mertens Rooftop
Mertens Rooftop – Mertens Rooftop sits above Mertens Prime (formerly known as New Hotel Mertens). You’ve probably seen photos of Mertens Rooftop because the view surely is “Insta worthy.” Especially during the hours of sunset, the city illuminates and creates the most beautiful scenery.
5. One Bourbon
One Bourbon – Ok, let’s just start out with the fact that their website gives the best description for bourbon: magic brown water for fun people. And guess what, they obviously know what they are talking about because they offer over 200 different whiskies and bourbons… While you’re sipping on a beautiful cocktail, you can enjoy the private patio with strung lights and heaters for when the evening begins to cool.
6. The Friesian Gastropub
The Friesian Gastro Pub – Ya’ll, this one came recommended by our followers and it did NOT disappoint! This patio space is gorgeous complete with new rooftop shade for hot summer days and heaters for cool fall nights. For those of you who aren’t quite sure what a “gastropub” is, here is a little google wisdom for you: a pub that specializes in serving high-quality food.
7. Butchers Union
Butcher’s Union – Butcher’s Union is one of my favorite date night locations for many reasons, just one of them being that they specialize in meat and whiskey… Yes please! The courtyard is available for seating where you can look up and see lovely blue skies while enjoying the comfort of indoors and heated lamps! They also have seating up front that has been expanded to allow for more diners!
Sovengard – This local favorite has been a hot spot for outdoor seating in Grand Rapids and we are NOT upset about it. Sovengard’s biergarten is the perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long day of work… or a full day of watching the kids… or a day of doing absolutely nothing actually. So basically it’s perfect for all occasions. ADDITIONALLY (if you didn’t see from last year) they have tents in the winter and they are just really, really cool.
9. The Winchester
The Winchester – Every time I pass by The Winchester I am in awe of the beautiful patio, but they have also turned their parking lot into patio space so that more of you can enjoy their amazing food. The outdoor seating offers shade, lights, and of course a brilliant ambiance. Also, when I say amazing food, just know that I am picturing their larger than life burgers and a beer. ?
10. The Knickerbocker
The Knickerbocker – This BIG addition to the West Side brought a lovely outdoor space, both covered and uncovered. Complete with fire pits, igloos, an outdoor bar, and premium food and beverages, The Knickerbocker gets a solid A from us! Not only do they brew really great beer but they also deliver unique spirits from their distillery.
Alright folks, that’s what we have for you… for now! There are so many other amazing patio spaces in the area that we haven’t covered yet! Drop your favorite in the comments below, we would love to hear from you.
Now it’s time for me to go sit out in this LOVELY Michigan weather and enjoy some delicious food. Now just to decide which of these restaurants I want to visit first…
